John Herritage (Heritage) Bryan (1798-1870) was an attorney of New Bern and later Raleigh. He represented Craven County in the State Senate (1823-1825) and was elected to Congress in 1825 as a National Republican. After serving in Congress for two terms, Bryan returned to his New Bern law practice until moving to Raleigh around 1839.
